Dosage Guide for delta 8

Updated: Apr 16, 2023

Delta 8 THC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in hemp and marijuana plants. Most people know its cousin Delta 9 THC, (aka anything called weed at a dispensary or on the street).

Difference between Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC?

Delta 8 THC is reported to be a quarter of a third as potent as Delta 9 THC. But more interestingly, it has been reported to have a totally unique mental and emotional experience compared to normal Delta 9 THC.

Delta 8 THC is currently considered federally legal as of the writing of this article. Delta 9 THC is considered legal in certain states but is considered federally illegal.

What is the right Delta 8 dosage for you?

Of course, that really depends on you. Are you looking for a dose for your first time? Or are you a more experienced user?

A first-time dose should be about:

  • 5 - 15 mg per serving

For intermediate users you can try;

  • 15 - 45 mg per serving

For high-tolerance users you can try the:

  • 45 - 150 mg per serving.

Read your labels!

Delta 8 tinctures come in bottles measured in ml. This is because 1 dropper is approximately 1 ml. So if a bottle contains 1000 mg of Delta 8 THC and is in a 50 ml bottle it means each dropper will have 1000/50 = 20 ml per serving.

How long do Delta 8 THC products take to kick in?

For vape pens and pipes it takes 10-20 minutes for Delta THC to kick in, for tinctures about 1 - 1.5 hours, and 2+ hours if it’s taken in the form of a gummy or other edible

Make sure you account for your weight

Just as important as the weight of the substance you are taking is how much you weigh.

For reference we recommend,

  • 100 - 150 pounds: 6 - 10 mg for first doses, and 20-35 for strong doses

  • 150 - 200 pounds: 9 - 13 mg for first doses, and 35 - 45 for strong doses

  • 200 - 300 pounds: 13 - 19 mg for first doses, and 45 - 70 for strong doses

What happens if I take too much?

While no one has ever taken a lethal amount of Delta 8 THC, it may cause some unfortunate side effects if you take too much too fast. Thankfully, Delta 8 doesn’t have nearly the same reported side effects as its more trippy Delta 9 cousin,

Side effects of overusing are fairly mild but include:

  • Dry eyes

  • Nausea

  • Grogginess and poor concentration

However, these effects should only last a few hours. Eating and drinking water can help mitigate the chance of side effects occurring.
